Floor Plan for an Institution
Floor Plan for an Institution was a durational collaborative project, whereby artists & curators from 5 artist-run spaces based in the West Midlands region were invited to contribute to the design of a speculative artist-run institution within the Meter Room project space, as a means of collectively imagining an alternative model for what an art institution could be.
Floor Plan for an Institution approached the medium of the exhibition as a space where art and its institutions could be imagined and speculated upon, rather than a space where fixed cultural values are represented.
Each artist-run space was invited to create one of the rooms for the institution, the sum total of which formed an alternative model for how an artist-run institution could take shape and how it might function. The following rooms were responded to over a 5-month period:
