Cast of a flywheel originally made in a Ford foundry in Leamington Spa, which closed in 2007.
The flywheel was re-cast close to the original foundry location, using offcut waste material from the Vitsoe factory that now operates on the redeveloped site. Vitsoe manufacture the Dieter Rams designed 606 Universal Shelving System.
Flywheels store and balance energy via rotational momentum.
The resultant object appears somewhat akin to an ammonite fossil of a used car engine part, which was cast and then recast in the West Midlands.
Produced during a short collaborative artist residency entitled Meltdown by Pangea Sculpture Centre, November 2023.
